Interior solutions
The ambition of Airport Bratislava was to distinguish the interior of the new terminal building from the many generic airport environments found worldwide. The goal was to create an original and region-specific interior concept with a unifying design element present throughout the public areas, which would give the terminal a distinct identity.
To meet this objective, Milieu Architects came up with a concept inspired by Milan Rastislav Štefánik and the aviation heritage of his era. The life and legacy of this renowned Slovak scientist, aviator, politician and General are reflected in Štefánik’s credo, displayed on the rear wall of the Departures hall. Aviation motifs are further evoked throughout the interior design, notably in the structural canopy above the check-in desks, composed of steel cables and tensioned fabric, as well as in the furnishing and the retail zone façade, which references the ribbed structure of an aircraft fuselage.
Passenger orientation is made easier thanks to intuitive circulation routes, visual continuity across the interior, and the attractive design of the check-in counters. Through its design, material diversity and functionality, the new airport terminal in Bratislava offers not only comfort and a pleasant shopping environment, but also a sort of architectural experience.
With the opening of the new terminal, Bratislava Airport has ushered in a new era of its development. The interior concept plays a key role in shaping the airport's overall identity. The new Bratislava Airport is modern, comfortable, and welcoming, with a peaceful atmosphere and reliable services.
