Interior solutions

Airport Bratislava’s aim was to distinguish the interior of the new terminal building from other universal airport structures, many of which are the same around the world. The main objective of the airport was to create an original and region-specific interior, to identify a unifying design element, which would be felt throughout the public areas, and which would give the new terminal building a unique character.

To meet this objective, Milieu Architects came up with the theme of Milan Rastislav Štefánik and the symbols of aviation of his era. The life and works of this renowned Slovak scientist, aviator, politician and General are depicted with Štefánik’s credo on the back wall of the Departures terminal. Aviation motifs are evoked further by the stylised covering of the check-in desks made from steel ropes and stretched elastic fabric, as well as by the furnishing and the retail zone façade structure in the waiting zone of the terminal, which is reminiscent of a ribbed structure of the aircraft’s body.

The intuitive approach routes make orientation for passengers easier, as does the visual interconnection of interior space and the attractive appearance of the check-in counters. Thanks to its design, variety and functionality, the new airport terminal in Bratislava offers its passengers not only complete comfort and the option of shopping in a pleasant environment, but also a sort of an artistic experience.

With the launch of the new terminal building, Airport Bratislava has ushered in a new era in its development. The concept of the interior is one of the most important characteristic elements of the new overall image of the airport in Slovakia’s capital city. The new Airport Bratislava is comfortable, modern and cosy, with a peaceful atmosphere and reliable services.
