Sarajevo is the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina and one of the most interesting destinations in the Balkans. The city lies in a valley surrounded by mountains and combines oriental atmosphere, Ottoman history, Austro-Hungarian architecture, lively cafés, markets and excellent gastronomy. Flights from Bratislava
You can fly from Bratislava to Sarajevo with direct Wizz Air flights to Sarajevo International Airport, with the airport code SJJ. The new route will operate from 3 December 2026. During the winter flight schedule, flights will operate regularly on Thursdays and Sundays, and in the following summer season on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

Transport from the airport
- Bus – Sarajevo International Airport is connected with the city centre by the Airport – Baščaršija/Bentbaša bus line operated by Centrotrans. The line connects the airport with the centre of Sarajevo and the historic Baščaršija district. A ticket costs approximately 5 KM and the first piece of luggage up to 23 kg is included in the price.
- Taxi / private transport – taxi services are available directly at the airport and are a convenient option for travelling to your hotel or chosen location. The journey by car to the centre of Sarajevo takes approximately 20–30 minutes, depending on traffic and the final part of the city.
- Transfer / shuttle – you can also use a pre-booked private or hotel transfer. This option is practical especially when arriving later, travelling with larger luggage or heading to accommodation outside the centre.
- Car rental – you can rent a car directly at the airport. This is a suitable option if you plan trips outside Sarajevo, for example to the Bjelašnica mountains, the spring of the Bosna River, Mostar, Travnik or other parts of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
What not to miss in Sarajevo
When visiting Sarajevo, you should definitely not miss these places and experiences:
- Baščaršija – the historic heart of Sarajevo with narrow streets, craft shops, mosques, cafés and a typical oriental atmosphere.
- Sebilj – a famous wooden fountain on Baščaršija Square and one of the most photographed symbols of the city.
- Latin Bridge – a historic bridge over the Miljacka River, connected with the events that preceded the beginning of the First World War.
- Gazi Husrev-beg Mosque – one of the most important Ottoman landmarks in Sarajevo and an important spiritual symbol of the city.
- Vijećnica – a beautiful building of Sarajevo City Hall with distinctive architecture and rich history.
- Tunnel of Hope – a place commemorating the siege of Sarajevo and one of the most important chapters in the city’s modern history.
- Yellow Fortress – a popular viewpoint with beautiful views of Sarajevo, especially at sunset.
- Trebević – a mountain above the city, suitable for a trip, walk, views and a visit to the former Olympic bobsleigh track.
- Vrelo Bosne – a natural site at the spring of the Bosna River, ideal for relaxation, walks and a trip outside the city centre.
- Bosnian gastronomy – taste ćevapi, burek, pita, begova čorba, dolma, baklava, tufahije and traditional Bosnian coffee.

Sarajevo is often described as a place where East meets West. Within a short walking distance, you can find mosques, churches, synagogues, Ottoman bazaars and buildings from the Austro-Hungarian period.
