Record June results for Bratislava Airport - more than 246,000 passengers
11. 07. 2024 – Bratislava airport processed a record 246,000 travellers in June, an increase of 14 percent year-on-year. BTS has managed to process more than 200,000 passengers in June only seven times since its creation in 1951, and this June exceeded all previous records.
A historic record has been broken at M. R. Štefánik Airport. During June 2024, the airport handled a total of 246,003 passengers on arrivals and departures – the highest June number in the airport's 73-year history! In June, the number of passengers increased by 14 percent compared to June 2023. In the first half-year, the number of handled passengers at the airport exceeded 733,000.
“The number of 200,000 passengers in June has been exceeded at Bratislava Airport only seven times since its establishment in 1951. This June, however, we managed to surpass passenger numbers of even the strongest pre-pandemic years – the record years of 2018 and 2019. Compared to last June, when 216,047 passengers were handled on arrivals and departures, this year we reached an even higher number in the first sixth month by almost 30,000 people,” clarified the General Director and the Chairman of the Board of the M. R. Štefánik Airport Dušan Novota.
“The excellent June passenger numbers were primarily due to numerous regular and charter flights from Bratislava to Turkish Antalya, Hurghada in Egypt and Larnaca in Cyprus, and back, which increased by more than 20% year-on-year. The carrier Ryanair have also increased the number of regular flights to Milan-Bergamo and Alghero in Sardinia,” added the General Director of the airport.
This June, 3,297 flights took place at the airport – a 9% increase compared to last June.
“In the first half of 2024, a total of 733,097 departing and arriving passengers were handled at M. R. Štefánik Airport – 10% more compared to the same time period last year. We have thus reached 78% of passenger numbers from before the corona crisis,” Dušan Novota explained. “We also expect high passenger numbers in July and August,” he concluded.
In the first half of the year, the most passengers departed from Bratislava to London, Antalya, Milan-Bergamo, Skopje, Dublin and back.
There were 12,519 departures and landings of aircraft from January to the end of June at Bratislava Airport, which is 7% more than in the first half of 2023.
