KHL brings spotter delicacies to Airport Bratislava

19. 09. 2012 - Beyond scheduled and charter flights the KHL brings more interesting planes landing at Bratislava airport mainly from Russian airlines. Sunday, 15th September 2012 at night time the airport welcomed Antonov AN-148 of Polet Airlines that brought ice-hockey team of SKA St. Petersburg. This is the first time when this type of plane landed in Bratislava.

The aircraft fans enjoyed arrival of the Russian team Spartak Moscow which used services of Nordavia, one of the most famous West Russian airline and its Boeing 737-500 which was in the past serviced by low-cost carrier SkyEurope Airlines. airBaltic landed with the same type of aircraft with unusual pastel-green tail and carried Dynamo Riga players. The Donbas Donetsk team landed in Bratislava with McDonnell Douglas MD_83 of Khors Aircompany while the team of Slovan Bratislava will be accompanied by an Airbus A320 of Holidays Czech Airlines throughout the season.

Airport Bratislava has positive experience with handling ice-hockey teams already from the Ice Hockey World Championship 2011 held in Slovakia.

In connection with the Continental Ice Hockey League the airport does not expect a significant aircraft movement’s growth but the traffic will be enriched by a wide range of aircraft types landing in Bratislava. Slovak team presence at one of the most famous ice hockey event will increase the visibility of the Slovak capital within the East European region and support scheduled flights between Bratislava and Moscow which are now operated 7 times a week.

Ice Hockey fans can fly to/from Bratislava via the Russian metropolis from/to another 9 destinations such as St. Petersburg, Novosibirsk, Khanty-Mansiysk, Omsk, Donetsk, Nizhnekamsk, Ufa, Kazan, Nizhniy Novgorod where the KHL matches will take place. Passengers can fly with just one ticked issued to the final destination with ideal connecting times from 90 minutes to 4 hours.
